About Ko Yama Ryu

Ko Yama Ryu teaches Goshin Jitsu, translated this means the art of self defence. The name Ko Yama Ryu was given to Sensei Garwood from his senior instructor Shihan Kevin Garwood 6th Dan. The name means Little Mountain Style, and is called this after the parent club, O Yama Ryu, Big Mountain Style.Oliver named the clubs for his Dad after researching Japanese names (in a book on Sumo - Japanese wrestling). The name seemed appropriate after Shihans round form!

What We Do

Ko Yama Ryu runs two full time classes(details here)and also run private classes for groups or schools giving people an introduction to the art, all of this in addition to regular teaching as part of O Yama Ryu.

The style taught focuses on both traditional and modern techniques all in a non-competitive structure. Techniques taught for juniors include throwing, grappling, rolling and falling. With senior classes the list includes locks, strangles and other fun stuff! To find out other benefits of training in the martial arts click here.
